At Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Sharjah, Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated SunRisers Hyderabad in a hard-fought match by five runs in Match 37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. When Hyderabad decided to bowl first, Punjab was held to 125/7 in 20 overs. Jason Holder was his team’s best bowler, taking three wickets for 19 runs. Later, SRH’s batters failed to perform from the outset of their innings while chasing 126 runs. Early in the pursuit, Mohammed Shami removed David Warner and Kane Williamson. Leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi, who grabbed three significant wickets in the middle overs while giving up 24 runs, was the main wicket-taker for PBKS. Punjab Kings, headed by KL Rahul, moved up to fifth place in the points standings with their victory. In the ten games they have played this season, PBKS has four victories. With eight losses in nine games, Hyderabad is still at the bottom of the standings, and its chances of making the playoffs are all but over.
However, there were some exciting moments in the game. The Kings looked destined to lose yet another game from a winning position until Jason Holder hit five sixes late in the contest. But on this particular instance, they successfully defended 16 in the final over thanks to IPL rookie Nathan Ellis.
The Kings struggled to 125 for 7 while the going was somewhat easier in the first innings of batting. Holder was the Sunrisers’ standout bowler as well, grabbing three wickets and ultimately taking home the Player-of-the-Match honours. However, it wouldn’t have been much of a comfort after such a painful defeat.
